Welcome & Opportunity

All residents deserve to feel welcome and have the opportunity to thrive in our community. We need a commissioner who speaks up when members of our community are targeted or forgotten, listen to their stories and advocate for policies that create a more inclusive Fulton County. I will meet with, listen to and develop policies based on input from the diverse residents of district 1 and engage with our Black, Latino, Asian American & Pacific Islander, and Arab American communities to help build a stronger, more inclusive policy agenda for Fulton County.

 Tax Assessor's office

All residents deserve fair, easy to understand, and reliable property tax assessments. The tax assessment process determines the value of taxable property, which is then applied to the millage rate, which determines the cost of your property taxes. Everything about this process needs to be easy to understand and made available in detail to taxpayers. This includes exactly how the assessed value is determined, step by step instructions to file an appeal if you do not agree with the assessed value, and clear guidance of the taxpayers rights and expectations during the Board of Equalization process. Every single step of the appeal, Board of Equalization process, and right to a 3-year freeze of assessed value are completely legal and easy to execute if you have clear guidance and step by step instructions. I will advocate for the financial resources to ensure Fulton County can make the property assessment, appeal and Board of Equalization process open and available to all taxpayers.

Bringing Value to Fulton

All residents deserve the opportunity to get the full value of county services for their tax dollars. Every person should have a voice in how county services are administered, and access to services that will make their lives better. I will work to raise awareness regarding the role and services provided by Fulton County government, help educate on the role of the county commission, and work to improve the quality and breadth of county services such as water so that our county can truly reach its potential.

 Voting & Elections

We need to fully fund Fully fund the Fulton Board of Registrations & Elections to offer accessible, efficient, & transparent elections that are free of election conspiracies and false fraud allegations. This past July 2021, if the funding for early voting staffing wasn’t approved, it’s entirely possible our election department would not be able to perform all operations, leaving it vulnerable to a state takeover, which puts the certification of our Fulton votes at risk.

One of the fastest ways to bring down the cost of elections is to use a ranked choice voting system that would eliminate runoffs. Traditionally we have had a runoff almost every primary & general election cycle.

Water Services

Every homeowner should be offered the opportunity to have a sensor on their water meter to catch water leaks early. We had a water leak that we did not know about 2 few months when the bill came. We had to pay about $900 to fix the leak and we had a $2,500 water bill. The department does have a program to reduce water bills due to a leak and we ended up paying about $900 of the $2,500. Not every homeowner has the resources to pay even the $1,800 we had to. If we can catch leaks early then we can at least reduce the burden of a large water bill.

The county has a plan to replace our current meters with ones that report water usage in real time. They are in the planning stage and this is a priority of mine to be implemented as soon as it is ready.

 Human Services

Ensure effective operation of our housing continuum of care and determine gaps that need to be filled to serve our residents facing homelessness. We have several excellent homeless case management programs and preventative support, but there is very little available to residents living in extended stay hotels in North Fulton. When you are paying $400-500 a week for a hotel, it is near impossible to save up the money needed to move into permanent housing. That is, if you can find housing one an afford, and will accept potentially negative credit situations. I’d like to see how we can connect these families to case management assistance that would normally be available in a shelter and see how we can offer the county’s rapid rehousing funds to help get them into permanent housing. Living in an extended stay hotel is essentially a very expensive shelter with no services that come with a shelter.

Fulton spends $40M on care for under & uninsured residents at Grady Hospital. If these residents had access to healthcare programs, we could redirect those funds to other county priorities.

Animal Services

The Commission approved a new Animal Shelter in 2019 and finally broke ground on the new facility in October 2021. I have fostered a dog from Fulton County in the fall of 2013 and successfully helped connect her with her forever home, so I understand the value of the animal services department.

Courts, Public Defender & District Attorney

Fully fund the District Attorney’s & public defenders offices, so they can correctly determine if someone is dangerous and needs to go prison, or they can go to a pre-indictment diversion program to keep them out of the prison system while still keeping the community safe

Fully fund our courts system to continue our work to relieve the COVID case backlog and relieve overcrowding in the county jail.

I support Fulton District Attorney Fani Willis in her commitment to not prosecute any abortion cases. Reproductive decisions should only be made between a family and their doctor.

Public Safety

I support the reopening of the Alpharetta jail to relieve police officers from having to transport to the county jail for every arrest, taking them away from their patrolling responsibilities.

The Fulton County Jail needs either take over a current facility or build an entire new jail. The conditions inmates are living in are unsafe and inhumane. It’s my understanding that the county is completing a feasibility study to determine the next steps.

I fully support the newly established Diversion Center at the Atlanta City Detention Center. We need to monitor this program for its progress and continue to fund it. This is a place where police and community members can bring individuals who need mental health services or severely in need of wraparound services that normally are just brought to jail because there were no other options.

Sheriff Labat needs the funding required to recruit and retain high quality staff for the county jail and the Sheriff’s department.

Fulton County operates the permitting process for concealed carry permits and has the ability to deny or revoke a permit when deemed appropriate. The Permit-less carry law makes it illegal for Fulton to carry out this critical function to protect our residents

Youth Services

Cities in North Fulton such as Johns Creek is seeking ways to expand its youth programming and the Commission should get involved in helping support the creation and long term sustainability of youth programs in North Fulton.

Libraries

I fully support the value of libraries and services to our communities. I do not believe there should be any restrictions of literary events if the library as found any event likely to be well attended and supported by members of the community.

Arts

I support continuing to fund programs such as the Johns Creek Arts Center. I am interested in finding a way to help support Johns Creek in their efforts to develop a Makers
